Engine and Transmission Removal Checklist

Print this out and check off the items as they are completed.

Take lots of photos for reference later during reassembly.

Store removed nuts and bolts in baggies and label.

1. Disconnect Battery or Turn Cutoff switch to off
2. Jack up Rear of Car and Support
3. Disconnect Hood Support and Tie Back Hood
4. Drain Oil
5. Drain Transmission
6. Drain Radiator
7. Remove Heater Hoses
8. Disconnect Heater Control Cable
9. Remove Mud Guard
10. Remove Radiator Hoses
11. Remove or Protect Radiator
12. Disconnect Alternator Wiring
13. Remove Alternator
14. Disconnect Temperature Sensor Wire
15. Disconnect Oil Press Gauge Line
16. Tag Coil Wiring and Disconnect
17. Tag and Disconnect Starter Wires
18. Disconnect Fuel Line and Cap
19. Disconnect Accelerator Cable
20. Disconnect Carbon Cannister at Valve Cover
21. Disconnect Purge Pipe at Side Cover
22. Disconnect Brake Servo Hose from Intake Manifold
23. Tag/Disconnect Electric Choke Wire from Carb
24. Remove Intake Manifold and Carb
25. Remove Header/Exhaust Manifold
26. Remove Shifter Surround and Boot
27. Remove Shifter and Plastic Bushing
28. Disconnect Clutch Slave Cylinder
29. Disconnect Speedo Cable at Transmission
30. Tag and Disconnect Backup Lights at Tranny Switch
31. Tag and Disconnect O/D or Vac Advance Switch at Tranny
32. Disconnect Wiring Harness Clip at Starter Flange
33. Disconnect Wiring Harness Clip at Transmission
34. Disconnect Driveshaft at Transmission
35. Support Engine With Hoist and Load Leveler
36. Support Transmission With Floor Jack
37. Remove Transmission Mounts
38. Remove Bolts/Nuts for Front Engine Mounts
39. Remove Engine Restraint
40. Remove 4 Bolts for Rear Cross Member to Frame
41. Remove Bolts for Bottom Tie Brkt to Cross Member
42. Ease Engine/Tranny Foward and Tilt to Lift from Car
